How do children cope with global climate change? Coping strategies, engagement, and well-being
Studies indicate that learning about global problems can trigger profound feelings of anxiety, helplessness, and hopelessness. However, few studies focusing on how children cope with climate change. The main aims of this study were, therefore, to explore how a group of Swedish 12-year-olds cope with global climate change and to examine how different coping strategies relate to well-being (life satisfaction, negative affect, positive affect) and environmental engagement (environmental efficacy, pro-environmental behavior), as well as optimism concerning climate change and a sense of purpose in life.
