Microforests Flourish: A Year On from Schools2030 Climate Initiatives in East Africa
The Aga Khan Foundation’s initiative, Play, Pluralism, and the Planet, launched at COP27, has made strides in climate education, particularly through the establishment of microforests in over 130 schools across East Africa. These miniature ecosystems serve as both climate change mitigation tools and immersive teaching aids, reaching 500 teachers and 15,000 students. AKF plans to expand this initiative to other regions and delve into the community benefits of microforests while integrating education into a transformative climate agenda. The journey towards a greener, more sustainable future continues, with each sapling planted bringing us closer to a world where education and environmental stewardship are intertwined.
