GREEN Webinar: GEM Report, UNESCO and MECCE (2024) on Education and Climate Change
August 13, 2024 8AM ET
Building on the 2016 Global Education Monitoring Report, Education for People and Planet, the GEM Report has embarked on a new series of papers to highlight the interlinkages, evidence and importance of education for the other Sustainable Development Goals. The first in this series focuses on the links between the global goals on education and climate change and was developed in partnership with the MECCE project. This presentation begins with a broad framework that discusses climate change and interlinkages with education, and then highlights key findings, messages, research gaps, and recommendations. It then turns to an important indicator-focused approach to assessing the quantity and quality of climate education and a greening curriculum indicator – both highlighted in the paper.
Priya Joshi led the development of the GEM Report UNESCO paper on Education and Climate Change with Aaron Benavot at the MECCE Team. Both came together in this webinar to discuss the achievements, challenges and outcomes of the report.
